Homeopathy and Beyond

Introduction

I was first introduced to the concept of homeopathy in the 1970s while I was a senior scientist and projects manager at the Eyring Research Institute in Provo Utah. There I was involved in government-sponsored research, primarily by the Department of Defense, to investigate a number of frontier science issues.

In that environment, I was approached by Gary (Pete) Peterson who wanted help in explaining a technology that a group of people he was associated with had experienced in Germany. This group had been formed to create a new Holistic, environmental medicine center called "The Nevada Clinic". The technology Dr. Fuller Royal brought back was called EAV which stands for Electro-Acupuncture according to Dr. Vol.

This is a technology that measures electrical conductance at acupuncture points on the body, primarily on the hands and feet, in an attempt to determine the state of balance of the associated acupuncture meridian. When they found a resistance measurement that seemed out of normal, they would attempt to correct it using either low-level electrical stimulation or through the use of medications, primarily homeopathic medications.

[ I continued to collaborate with Pete on the Nevada Clinic project. The result was the first computer-based EAV / homeopathic product called the Accupath -1000, The Accupath was succeeded by the INTERRO and ultimately by the current IQS-3.]

At that time, I had not heard of homeopathy. I later found that homeopathy was a prevalent medication throughout the world and was the prevailing scientific theory of health and medication prior to the insurgence (aided by the discovery of antibiotics and vaccines) of allopathic medicine.

In general, homeopathy became discredited in the USA as "unscientific" because there was no material science explanation of how it could work. This challenge fits into other things that I was being asked to look into: Things such as, Tesla communication, "Free Energy Inventions", psychic healing, radionics, Filo Farnsworth Fusion, etc.

Having been preconditioned to being open-minded, I attempt to understand what homeopathy was and why something could work without any reasonable physical explanation.

What is Homeopathy?

Dr. Hahnemann, in Germany in the 80 the 1800s, is credited with developing the concept of homeopathy. Apparently, the doctors of his era were well-versed in toxicology; that is: being familiar with what physical effects could be expected on the administration of various medicines and tinctures and other treatments. Dr. Hahnemann apparently noticed that there was a particular tree bark that was being used to effectively treat malaria. He observed that, if you were to consume that substance to toxicity, you may have some or all of the symptoms of a person with malaria.

He wondered if nature was giving Him a hint: perhaps a substance that could produce specific symptoms could also be used to correct those symptoms. That principle became the Homeopathic Law of Similars (Like treats Like.) A potential Toxin could also be a medicine.

Many other materials were then studied to determine the different effects (physical, mental-emotional) that might be experienced by administering that material in ever-increasing amounts and recording the effects. A study was called a Proving. Today, in pharmaceutical research we may call those findings side effects. In homeopathy research, they become a documented homeopathic repertoire of that substance.

In practice, Homeopathic remedies are non-toxic dilutions of a "mother" tincture. These dilutions are prepared by successive dilution and succussion. They have been manufactured in various dilution series: (Roman numeral V) dilution 10V = 5 -10 and 10X= 10-10 and in other series denoted by the corresponding roman numeral for the dilution step.

A homeopathic physician would begin by taking the case; by making a detailed list of all of the symptoms that a person could remember. That individual (Anecdotal) case description then was to be matched with the repertoire of symptoms associated with a particular homeopathic remedy. Not only was the remedy important, but the dilution was important

Because this early discipline was also a research discipline trying to observe what worked and what didn't work, the clinical trial was often restricted to a single remedy: you take the case, recommend a remedy, use the remedy, report back and see what worked, and what did not work

Roadblocks to Homeopathy

[ In general, these roadblocks have resulted in a competitive advantage of Allopathy over Homeopathy. We will show that Allopathy and Homeopathy should be considered complementary elements of a total approach to health rather than competitors.]

1. Scientific Credibility : Homeopathic care had high empirical credibility but lacked a good scientific explanation of how medicine, that was physically water with no active chemical ingredient, could have any effect on human health.

2. Complex Knowledge Base : Most allopathic medicines have been studied and labeled to "treat" some specific symptom or syndrome. Therefore, there is a catalog of conditions and matching medications. The condition-to-Drug relationship is established to be statistically valid for large groups of persons not for any person in particular.

Homeopathy is highly individualized. A Homeopath would, over the years, need to expand his familiarity with the complex repertoire of a large number of remedies and develop the skill of recognizing the complex individual, multi-factor, Case-to-remedy similarity. [Note: many over-the-counter homeopathic products try to mimic the allopathic method by creating combination remedies with common repertoire elements and with a single symptom label.]

3. Labor Intensive: In general, selecting the most effective homeopathic remedy will consume more professional time than a typical allopathic session.

4. Financial Handicap : Homeopathic remedies, by and large, were natural remedies that could not be patented. In order to patent a product, it must not already exist in nature; it must be something created. There is far more money in a product for which you have exclusive rights than there is for one that is generic and available in nature.

5. Political Regulation : The rationale for governmental regulation of the medical industry is that it is necessary for the protection of the public. Regulation of a Patented pharmaceutical remedy may be justified because Patent Drugs are novel biologicals that have no accepted history of safety. Because they have inherent toxic risk, it is necessary to show that they have some redeeming value, before they are approved for sale. License practitioners are empowered to consider the reward/risk odds to prescribe a clinical trial.

Homeopathic remedies became regulated as though they were pharmaceuticals even though, as we will explain, they are an entirely different agent. A drug is a physical agent that does something to you, I have found that a Homeopathic is a piece of information that empowers you to do something for yourself.

There is a huge profit involved in patenting medicine and money can lead to political control. The Patent Medicine industry was able to create an environment where anything that competed with their business was discouraged through political control of federal and state agencies; control of medical schools; licensing boards; insurance coverage. By limiting health insurance, in general, to prescription pharmaceuticals, homeopathic remedies and other GRAS (Generally Accepted As Safe) products are not products usually covered by insurance.

Reframing and Empowering Homeopathy, et al

I had the challenge of trying to understand why there are healing methods, that have been used throughout the world, that work, that are denied or discounted because there is no accepted physical scientific explanation for them, or even though they are GRAS, there has not been the money available to prove that they are effective for a particular application. For Example, nutrition, homeopathy, acupuncture, hypnosis, meditation, spiritual healing, and other health practices.

We need here to introduce the concept of complements. If two concepts A and B are to be complements, then the combination of A with B creates wholeness.

As I presented in a prior blog, "The Science of Life", our current view of "Science", whether it be: physical Science, Political Science, Social Science, Medical Science, et al is based on the statistical probability of group behavior. I characterize that scientific domain as the science of Chance. I propose that the science of Chance is only one aspect of reality. The existence of impossibly specific entities requires the action of Choice, and the implementation of Choice requires the concept of Intelligence. This leads to the need for a science of choice that is the Complement to the science of chance.

Intelligence , through the exercise of Choice, has the potential to select from what could be, what will be. For example, for each keystroke of this essay, I have the freedom to select one character from all the options on the keyboard.

I agree that an understanding of the means of the action of a homeopathy remedy cannot be found within the framework of Physical Science. Rather an understanding can exist within the complementary domain of a complementary Science of intelligence. Some Complementary concepts:

  1. Chance** Choice
  2. Allopathy** Homeopathy
  3. Other care **Self-care
  4. Impairment therapy **Empowerment Therapy
  5. Entropy**Organization (creation)
  6. Particle**Wave

Science of Life

Before we get into the suggested elements of life, let's first acknowledge that whole life, has two complementary aspects to it. In the Christian New Testament, there is the assertion that: the Spirit and the Body are the Souls of man; asserting that there are two complementary aspects of being: one is physical, and one is non-physical

We have our physical body consisting of the dust (elements) of the earth, and we have an aspect (intelligence) that organizes and motivates that dust. So, what we will ultimately be interested in, is how those two aspects intersect. As we just discussed, If A**B = 1 then anything real that is missing from A must be represented in B in order to achieve 1 (wholeness).

Let us consider some aspects of life that we normally encounter that are not elements of materialism, the Science-of-Chance:

  • Choice
  • Quality (choice is qualitative)
  • Non-local awareness
  • Response (opposition to reaction) Agency
  • Intention (action of the future on the present)
  • Thought (non-physical creation)
  • Symbolic language
  • The Quantum of choice is a choice
  • Memory
  • Self-Awareness
  • Purpose

It is beyond the scope of this paper to develop a complete model of the Science of Choice, "Viology". We only want to establish the reality that Choice, and thereby Intelligence, must exist for life to exist. Because it exists there are aspects of living reality than exist that cannot be explained by a physical Science -of-Chance. We will use the label Intelligence to point to this complementary aspect of reality. We also assert that we recognize life by observing the anti-entropic (creative, organizational) operations of living entities.

Language

The essence of intelligence is thought, and thought is directed attention. We use language internally to guide our attention; we also use it to coordinate our thoughts with others. We may observe that there are multiple forms of language; acoustic, pictorial, mathematic symbols, digital codes, olfactory, tactical. In each case there exist an element that we may call a word. In this respect, a word is an attention filter. A linguistic word filters from our attention any thought that does not meet the criteria of the thought represented by the word. For example, the word "cow" filters out the attention of anything that does meet the criteria for cow-ness. The symbol "2" filters out the concepts:1,3,4, cat dog, hot, etc. Language allows us to choose from all the thoughts that we could have, the ones we will have.

I came to the conclusion that a homeopath pharmacopeia is not a collection of drugs; it is rather a dictionary of words each defined by its associated repertoire of symptoms. I see a homeopathic as a "story' that is effective if it is your story. I see its value to be similar to that of a wall mirror. The mirror does not do anything to you, but it can do something for you. It can make you aware of your physical appearance and thereby empower you to do what you can to improve your appearance.

The description I use to represent this function is Directed Attention Therapy. Our bodies respond to a wide variety of attention signals: a rock in your shoe, a bee sting, a pulled muscle, a therapeutic suggestion, intentional (goal-directed) behavior such as intentional exercise, intentional diet modification, a novel experience, etc.)

The intelligent executive function of our body is tasked with the survival and function of many trillions of cells. I believe that the primary method of control is homeostatic feedback control (habit). I suspect that we are all attention deficit. We primarily support the status quo and respond to change. Some of our habits are what I call Mal-Adaptive learned behaviors. For example, allergies, setpoint body composition, irrational fear, etc., perhaps much of what we call chronic dis-ease.

To summarize: Homeopathy is not the practice of allopathic care by exogenous chemistry or physical intersession. Homeopathic care falls within the realm of empowered self-awareness. A remedy is effective if its message is sufficiently similar to maladaptive behavior or if it otherwise evokes awareness of a higher value alternative behavior (habit).

Evolution of EDD-IBF, APT communication Technology

The original "Accupath" protocol incorporated DR Vol's method of surveying acupoints on the hands and feet, then surveying homeopathic remedies in an attempt to discover an indication of "balance". The difference was, rather than have the client hold the remedy, or place the remedy on a test plate, the tested remedy was represented by a unique digital code from a computer-based dictionary of codes. Once the therapeutic remedy was identified, the remedy was provided by the pharmacy.

Upon the arrival of the personal computer, the technology was advanced and branded "INTERRO". We conceived, developed, and added to the INTERRO a Remedy Imprinter to produce an "imprinted" remedy at a custom dilution. Whereas, the availability of commercial homeopathic remedies is limited to just a few dilution choices, the appropriate imprinted dilution could be selected and produced with greater precision using the INTERRO's computer technology.

Even though the imprinted remedy is similar in function to a commercial Homeopathic remedy it is not manufactured according to the dilution and succussion method of Homeopathic methodology. With the IQS (Interactive Query System) we acknowledge that the Imprinted remedy is a similar but different product. I have therefore labeled this product as APT™. APT stands for Analogous Personal Transcript. The custom imprinted APT™ is neither a food nor a drug, it is an informational product that reflects a self-acknowledged issue that needs attention. As in the case of a Homeopathic, I describe the mode of action of an APT ™ as Directed Attention Therapy

Beyond Homeopathy

The preparation of a homeopathic remedy begins with a "mother" tincture of a physical substance. When we recognized that the activity of a remedy was actually determined by its repertoire (meaning) rather than by its chemistry, it became apparent that we could expand the IQS Dictionary to include definitions of the non-material.

The current IQS database includes imprint-able query codes for a broad range of physical things, such as vitamins, minerals, foods, nutrients, branded supplements, chemicals, cells, hormones, neurochemicals, organs, pathogens, tissues, etc.

It also includes codes that allow dialog and remediation regarding non-things. Examples are functional viability, stress quality (allergy, infection, inflammation, many others), functional stress, emotions, beliefs, systemic imbalance, mast cell activation, etc.

Two basic elements of a Homeopathy consult are: Define a pattern of stress and select a remedy that has a similar symptom pattern. We propose that the effect of the correct remedy is to elicit empowered self-healing by means of specific directed Attention.

The role of the APT, as used in the BioTrek protocol, employs homeopathic principles; however, the range, application, and specificity of the computer-imprinted APT go far beyond the domain of traditional homeopathy.

Although there is no chemical element to an APT (we recommend topical application to avoid even the appearance of chemical ingestion), there may however be physical symptoms associated with whatever action your body decides to take. For instance, an immune response to an infection, a detox response to a toxin; a hormonal shift to better balance your hormonal control, a surfacing and release of "buried" emotion. Because their responses are under your internal self-control, they are expected to be safe, brief, and effective

The Power and limits of Self Care

Question: How many psychologists does it take to change a lightbulb.?

Answer: Only one, however, the light bulb must want to change.

A directed attention remedy (such as an APT or homeopathic remedy) can activate the tremendous self-healing powers of the body. However, it does not act by compulsion. It is neither a food nor a drug. It does not contain a physical agency to compel change. It acts like a consultant's report that, in the event that it calls attention to an important issue, can empower management to decide how or if to deal with the situation.

Because of the extreme complexity of creating and sustaining the life of our bodies, we are primarily managed by habit. Because we are still alive, we have some confidence in our present collection of habits. Any change from the known to the unknown creates a conflict between fear and faith.

An act of healing follows a familiar pattern of therapeutic change. My understanding of the word sin is that it was originally associated with archery. If you sinned it meant that you missed the target. To improve your skill (and possible preserve your life) follow this pattern:

  1. You need a target.
  2. If you miss, you need to become aware that you missed,
  3. You need to acknowledge that you are responsible for the miss (confess your sin).
  4. You need to reconsider (re-pensive) your action.
  5. You need select and test a new behavior.
  6. If successful, you must practice until this new behavior becomes a habit.

This is just to acknowledge the potential power and limitations of directed attention therapy. My body may make me aware that I have had enough to eat; I may continue to over-eat because of the strength of old habits.

Even though a client may leave the office having resolved a maladaptive behavior (the allergy or other symptom is gone) any distracting stress may result in "falling off the wagon". That is why the application of the remedy should be repeated (reminder) for a period of time to empower the new behavior; or the remedy may need to be replaced with a different remedy or the same remedy at a different dilution, with a new resolve to heal.

We also have to recognize that many acute conditions are beyond the limits of self-care and need outside intervention. For instance, If I am dehydrated or starving, have severe trauma, or any other condition outside of the limits of homeostatic resilience, I cannot remedy the deficiency with a homeopathic remedy.

On the other hand, there is a vast array of functional issues and cellular environmental issues that persist as chronic under allopathic-only care that may be resolved with complementary IQS- APT remediation.

Summary

  • Homeopath's work, but it suffers from a lack of understanding of how it works.
  • We propose that homeopathy has been misbranded as a faux-pharmaceutical. This would only have some validity at low dilutions.
  • The computer-generated APT has no chemical activity at any dilution. It is neither a food nor a drug. It evokes the power of directed attention.
  • The range and specificity of the APT go beyond that of traditional homeopathy.
  • We reassert that a complete understanding of life includes a working model of the behavior of matter, energy, and entropy (the science of chance). Plus, a model of non-matter; with the capacity to organize the highly specific (a science of intelligent choice).
  • An aspect of intelligence is language (attention focus)
  • We report that the IQS3, the BioTrek protocol, and the custom APT are the result of about a 40-year development of an Electro-Dermal Dialog communication technology that enables communication with the intelligent self-manager of our body.
  • Self-Care plus Other-Care constitutes Whole-Care. The IQS3-EDD technology and its imprinted APT™ product constitute anEnabling Technology that can empower Safe and Effective Self-Care consultation.
